Instructions

Instructions for All Users

  • To read a document. There are two versions of each document, a consolidated version (see tab at top of page) which is citeable (once the site has moved beyond the pilot stage), and an editable “live” version (see tab at top of page) with suggested changes and comments by users that have not yet been validated by the editors.
  • To comment on a document, or respond to other users’ comments, simply add text to the comments section that appears under each section in the “live” version, enter your comment and then click on “save”. If you do leave a comment, it would be appreciated if you could identify yourself, but this is not necessary.
  • To see identified studies that have not yet been fully incorporated into the consolidated version, click on “Knowledge Queue”

The recommended way to use the site is:

  • Go to the consolidated (latest authorised) version of the document you want.
  • If you want to see if there are any suggested edits or comments on the questions or content, click on the title (or sub-title) of the relevant section and it will take to the editable version of the (sub) section where you can view the latest edits and comments, leave comments, or make edits yourself (if you are registered).

If you do make an edit, or leave a comment, make sure you save your contribution

To suggest new information to add:

  1. If you are a registered user you can add the reference to the knowledge queue directly by clicking on the “add a research item” tab at the top of the page, and follow the instructions there (which also tell you how to leave a comment about the relevance of the new research evidence, and/or what its implications are)
  2. Registered users can also edit the “live” editable version of the document to spell out what you think it should now say in the light of the new evidence, referencing the new information as appropriate.
  3. If you are not a registered user you can suggest new references in the comments box that appears under each section in the “live” version.

Again – make sure you save your contribution before you navigate away, otherwise it will be lost.

To print a whole document, click on the Printer Friendly link at the top of a document,

To print a section of a document, click on the Print this Document  link under the relevant section.

To access useful tobacco control resources on other sites, click on any of the Useful Links items in the left hand margin of the home page.

To suggest deletions, rather than add or suggest new content. Under each section there is a Suggest Deletions link and clicking on this will allow you to make suggestions about what you think should be deleted.
